Foundations & Friends

foundations

We believe that it is vital for every person to make a personal decision to follow Jesus Christ. Middle school students need to understand WHY we need Jesus before they can honestly make that decision. We use the New City Catechism curriculum to help us teach the foundational truths of the Christian faith to help students understand their need for a savior.

friends

When you come to Collide, you belong and you are welcome! We want every Collide student to be a part of a caring community of people - people who will be their friend no matter that. Friendship in middle school can be hard, and walking through those halls can be discouraging. We work to help students develop healthy, Christ-centered, friendships.

Why the New City Catechism?

Viveka Jenks

Position: NEW THIS YEAR
Phone: (216) 849-8124
Email: [email protected]

Hi! I’m Viveka. I’m new to being a CVCYouth leader. I’m excited to work with 8th grade Collide girls with Lauren and Holly. I’m not totally new to CVCYouth, though. I have two sons in High School, have already been a leader at a couple Frontlines as well as Winter Retreat. I fully know what I signed up for, lol!

During the weekdays, I work at Kent State University, and my side job is an area coordinator for CulturalCare Au Pair (au pairs are international young adults that come to the US to work as nanny’s for 1-2 years to get a cultural experience). I see all these things as missional opportunities to tell people about the wonderful news of the Cross.

I was born and raised in South Africa, and came to the country as an au pair when I was 22 years old. God had big plans for me to stay here, raise a family and serve Him in ways I didn’t expect!

In my free time, I love to sew or craft fun stuff (when I have the time), hike and run (I usually make the time), read actual books when I need to take the load off my legs, and listen to audiobooks to inspire me to run longer. My favorite reads are ones that help me grow in my faith, but I also love to throw some historical fiction in the mix.

Lauren served as an intern with CVCYouth in 2016 and was hired on staff in June 2018. Lauren has a B.S. and M.A. in counseling from Clarks Summit University. She says that her counseling degree “has become invaluable as I(she) walk alongside teenagers in some of the most formative years of their lives.” Lauren loves Cleveland and takes every opportunity to go exploring with her husband, Austin. The two never intended to stay in Cleveland long but the 216 has quickly become home to them.
